Take time out to explore the
natural beauty of the Buller region. Walk along Carters Beach or Tauranga Bay where there
is a gentle easy stroll to the seal colony. Cape Foulwind Walkway with its lighthouse and
Tauranga Bay are only 15 minutes by car from the motel.
Walk around the Coaltown Museum which is 1 block from the motel, with
its true to life coalmining experience, historical pioneering and photographic displays,
or be picked up for an excursion to the Denniston Mine setting for the recent novel
Denniston Rose or the Stockton Mine (NZs largest).
For the more adventureous there is whitewater rafting, jetski tours or jet boating through
the Buller Gorge, horse trekking or quad bike adventures on native bush trails. Why not
ride the rainforest train from Charleston and try some underworld blackwater rafting or
see the glow worm caves. There is so much to see and do.
Visit a working Gold Mine at
Mitchells Gully just 20 minutes south of Westport.
Day excursions include Karamea with its unspoilt white sand beaches
stretching for miles to the start of the 5 day Heaphy Track, or the amazing Oparara Arches
and the Giant Rimu tree. The world famous Punakaiki pancake rocks and blowholes are just
an hour south of Westport along with the Fox River Caves and the Ballroom Overhang. Lonely
Planet recently rated this stretch of coastline one of the top ten coastal drives in the
world.
Closer to Westport can be found many walks some of which are, Charming Creek Walkway, The
famous Denniston Incline, Chasm Creek, Gentle Annie beach walk.
Westport also has a very attractive Links Golf course just 10 minutes
from town and a bustling commercial area for all your needs. |
